Additional information

To apply for a commercial sublease, an applicant must first ensure that the piece of land to apply for is categorized under the Commercial land area zone. Details of the zoning plans for land areas in South Tarawa & Betio can be found in the GLUP (General Land Use Plan) 2017 document attached.

Also prior to submitting an application letter, an applicant must first seek clearance and upon which, get a written consent from a registered native land owner of the land and attach the consent letter with the application letter. However if an applicant is facing difficulties in acquiring such consent letter, he/she is adviced to submit an application letter to the Land Management Division and enquire for further assistance from the officers in charge regarding this matter.

An application letter should be clear and detailed, showing interest to apply for a sublease, giving detailed location of land to lease as well as a detailed nature of a business to operate on that commercial land.

There is no formal template for both an application letter and a written consent from landowners. However, the letters should be formal and addressed to the Director of Land Management Division .
